Alexandra Levits Water Cooler Wisdom Considering a Global Business Strategy

Alexandra Levit's Water Cooler Wisdom Considering a Global Business Strategy Many business owners dream oftaking a company overseas. Youre capable of making such a potentially lucrative moveâ€"with the right global business strategyin place. Tamara Nall, CEO of data consulting firmThe Leading Nicheoriginally incorporated in the U.S. But she decided to go global as a result of a relationship map that plotted the strength of her most influential relationships against the need for her companys services. Glaringly, the map pointed to international markets and West Africa specifically, says Nall. Kelly Gibbons, co-founder of personal branding firmMain and Rosehas a slightly different story. Her company, which helps socially-driven entrepreneurs and brands with communication services, received several inquiries from international clients every week. When the time came to expand, we decided tobase our new officein a location that many consider the center of the world: the UAE, Gibbons says. Consider Your Proposed Strategy From Top to Bottom A global business strategy should include: an overview of expansion plans, a description of the market, including size and competition, a description of planned overseas operations (including how products will be produced, distributedand marketed)and a description of how the international business will be led, managed, staffedand positionedfor growth. It sounds deceptively easy. But, according to Nall, developing an effective global business strategy requires careful consideration of a variety of factors. Essentialism Book Giveaway For the Overcommitted and Overworked

Essentialism Book Giveaway For the Overcommitted and Overworked I just finished reading this book and I am so excited to give away 5 copies today! Essentialism: The Disciplined Pursuit of Less is truly an eye opening book. I have been on a big mission this year to say no to clutter in the way of me becoming the person I want to be. It is so very true that less is better and that if you dont prioritize your life, someone else will. This book landed on my doorstep at the perfect time and I hope it does the same for you! ?? About the book: Essentialism isn’t about getting more done in less time.   It’s about doing less, but better.   It’s about getting only the right things done.  It is not  a time management strategy, or a productivity technique. It is a systematic discipline for discerning what is absolutely essential, then eliminating everything that is not, so we can make the highest possible contribution towards the things that really matter. By challenging the assumption of “we can have it all” and “I have to do everything,” and replacing it with “the right thing, in the right way, at the right time,” we can regain control of our choices about where to spend our precious time and energies.   Essentialism gives us the roadmap and tools to apply a more selective criteria to choose what is essential â€" in business and in life. I think you will find a lot of the advice in this book very valuable so here are the  ways you can get your hands on a copy of the book. Please enter using Rafflecopter below: Like  Classy Career Girl on Facebook Follow me on Twitter  @classycareer Tweet about this giveaway (make sure you mention @classycareer and @GregoryMcKeown) Leave a comment below answering this question: How do you prioritize and make sure you focus on the most important tasks at work? a Rafflecopter giveaway This giveaway is open to all residents in the US only. On the Job by Anita Bruzzese How Stress Can Be Good for Your Career

On the Job by Anita Bruzzese How Stress Can Be Good for Your Career Theres no shortage of stress these days at work, which is why many workers have turned to yoga, meditation, exercise and even aromatherapy to handle the pressure. But what if were making a mistake by trying to look at stress as something to be conquered and suppressed in our lives? What if we thought about pressure as something that can energize and help us, instead of something to be feared? Pressure has really gotten a bad reputation, butpressurecan be a very good thing, saysAimee Bernstein, a psychotherapist and executive coach. Think about it this way: A tire wouldnt go anywhere without pressure. Bernstein explains that pressure arrives when were asked to handle more than were used to, but itshow we respondthat makes the biggest difference in our lives. If you look at pressure as an energy that can help you get something done, then it also will make you feel alive and joyful. On the other hand, if you dont want to get close to pressure, you may become uncomfortable, stressed and even ill when it comes knocking. Part of the problem is that the strategies we use to handle pressure, such as yoga or taking a walk outside, arent always possible when racing from meeting to meeting. That leaves us vulnerable to pressure building uncomfortably, instead of letting us go with the flow, she explains. So how do you let pressure into your life that will be beneficial and not detrimental? Bernstein, author of Stress Less, Achieve More: Simple Ways to Turn Pressure into a Positive Force in Your Life, offers several suggestions. Among them: Remember to breathe.Post a BREATHE note to yourself on your computer monitor. Bernstein says that when we get busy we often start holding our breath or breathing very shallowly, which is enough to keep you alive but hardly adequate to maintain your energy and be able to deal with stress. Center yourself. When under pressure, we may react by attacking others, spacing out or distracting ourselves with drugs, alcohol or even shopping. Once you start to notice youre reacting poorly under pressure (you yell at a colleague, or stare endlessly at a tree outside your window), then you know youve got to get out of your own head and pay attention to your body. Find the Right Chicago LinkedIn Profile & Resume Writing Service

Find the Right Chicago LinkedIn Profile & Resume Writing ServiceThere are many places to find and hire a Chicago LinkedIn profile & resume writing service. The Internet is not a bad place to begin your search; however, when searching for a service, there are some things you should be looking for. Many of the listed services are legitimate; however, it's always a good idea to do a little checking to make sure that you're not getting scammed. This goes doubly so if the listing claims to have an impressive track record of success. There are many marketing scams out there, and they thrive in this competitive market. You want to find a company that is willing to work with you, and not try to sell you on the next program or product that is 'hot'cutting edge.' Make sure that the applicant and interviewer on the other end of the telephone line to understand the difference between an applicant and an employee. The most successful companies understand the difference and understand that you do no t have to be a product owner to do what is best for the individual and their career. It's very important to know this distinction when hiring a Chicago LinkedIn profile & resume writing service. Also, make sure that you're comfortable with the person you're working with. Make sure they have a way to contact you. Don't work with people who aren't available 24 hours a day or have too many excuses as to why they aren't there.Make sure you're getting the kind of customer service you need when a client calls you to give feedback about their profile. Look for companies that offer phone support; otherwise, you can expect them to not answer the phone properly or take a long time answering your questions. Another thing to look for is if the company has a way to get in touch with their customer service representatives if you ever have a problem with your profile or your services.A good profile and resume writing service will provide a comprehensive resume writing service to its clients. They s hould provide editing, rewriting, and proofreading services. If you're not sure how to write a resume or a good way to proofread your resume, a Chicago LinkedIn profile & resume writing service will be happy to help you out.For some, the basics are all that they need; others require more than that, but that is the basic requirements for applicants who are serious about landing an interview. Not only should the profile be professional and include industry specific keywords, but it should be grammatically correct and should contain any other data required by the company. Many companies also require applicants to have a valid email address to help them process the application quickly. While all of these details are important, you also want to make sure that the resume is keyword rich. By using some of the tips above, you can help ensure that you get the job you want and get the right person to do the job.

Highlight YOU With A Career Portfolio

Highlight YOU With A Career Portfolio Highlight YOU With A Career Portfolio Differentiating yourself from other candidates with similar backgrounds is essential in today’s job market. One way to do that is by creating a portfolio. Portfolios are not just for creative folks. Wherever your field or industry, a career portfolio can help set you apart. If you haven’t heard the term, a career portfolio is used to showcase your accomplishments, training, and experience. Your current career level and target position will help determine the contents. Certainly, if you’re in a creative field, you want to have samples of your work. If you’re an executive a summary of ventures you designed, implemented, and led might prove valuable. Copies of articles and/or white papers you’ve authored can be a good addition too. Depending on your current situation, here are more than a dozen items you should consider including: Extra resumes for any added on-the-spot interviews List of references, branded to compliment your resume An addendum with a list of speaking engagements, publications, etc. Copies of letters of recommendation Copies of letters from happy clients Copies of articles, news clippings, etc. about you Copies of articles, papers, etc. written by you Copies of certificates, certifications, and licenses Copies of transcripts, recent advanced degrees Copies of awards, honors, or other recognition Samples of work including creative, marketing and/or advertising campaigns Summaries of high profile projects, clear and concise, use CAR as a guide Positive employment reviews, preferably excerpts While everyone should bring a few copies of their resume to every interview, an executive or senior-level professional probably doesn’t need to bring copies of her university transcripts. Unless shes just completing a MBA or other advanced degree or targeting a position in academia. Letters of recommendation are great if you have them. Its always more impressive when someone else is saying how awesome you are. Notes from happy clients can strengthen a sales professional’s candidacy. Cards from patients and/or their families can bolster those in health care. There are several ways to put a portfolio together. While a 3-ring binder with clear plastic inserts would work, it may prove bulky. A small folder is another option. Just make sure that you bring copies not originals and the examples you select highlight your value as a candidate. If you don’t have materials on hand, begin compiling them today. It’s better to have things you don’t need ready than to be scrambling for things you do need when your interview is tomorrow. What you include in your career portfolio will change over time. However, wherever you are in your career, having portfolio can help set you apart from other candidates. It’ a concrete, visual way to validate your value. 5 Tips on How to Master Juggling a Full-Time Job With Business School - CareerAlley

5 Tips on How to Master Juggling a Full-Time Job With Business School - CareerAlley We may receive compensation when you click on links to products from our partners. Theres a bit of a Catch-22 situation that many recent graduates are finding themselves in today. They need to continue their education in order to secure a great job, but they need a great job in order to pay for their education. It can sometimes seem like theres no way out but what if there was an easy answer right in front of your eyes? What if you could work full time AND study at business school, too? The truth is that, with a little bit of planning, juggling a full-time job with business school doesnt have to be as difficult as you may think. And best of all, youll benefit from on-the-job experience while still gaining new skills and knowledge that can help you to hack your way to the top of the corporate ladder. The truth is that, with a little bit of planning, juggling a full-time job with business school doesnt have to be as difficult as you may think. Tweet This Here are 5 handy tips that can make it easier to study and work at the same time: 1. Study Online Image One of the best ways to make things a lot easier on yourself right from the start is to choose your business school program wisely. Thanks to fantastic digital communications channels and online learning platforms, some business schools now offer students the opportunity to study remotely, without the need to spend hours in the classroom. And perhaps best of all, much of the content is pre-recorded and stored in the cloud, which means you can access the materials at any time, and study at your own pace. This allows you to easily fit in your study sessions in your own time, outside of standard working hours. 2. Realize That Its OK to Say No Image Forget about that old Jim Carey movie Yes Man. Sometimes, its OK to say no. The thing with both organizations and with business schools is that they understand the importance of extending beyond the office, or beyond the classroom. Networking and immersing yourself in the study/work culture can play a significant role in success, but that doesnt mean that you have to RSVP to every extracurricular event going. While its important to socialize with colleagues from both your office and your course, its also really important to understand that you dont have to do everything Its OK to not be a superhero. 3. Chat With Your Boss Image If youve been feeling nervous about telling your boss that youve enrolled in business school, dont be. Professionals enroll in business school for one reason: to gain more knowledge and become better at what they do and thats something that a lot of bosses are only too happy to get on board with. Having a chat with your boss about your academic goals and workplace expectations can actually be one of the best ways to juggle a full-time job and business school. You may find that your company has measures in place to support employees returning to their studies, and they may even offer a little bit of flexibility. 4. Stay Organized Image Despite best efforts, the truth is that youll probably find you have a lot going on when youre trying to work and study at the same time. The secret? Impeccable organization. Business school programs may not be quite as highly structured as the average workday, and you may have some weeks that are more hectic than others. Thats why a weekly review can be handy. One night a week, sit down and review your schedule for the upcoming 7 days. This gives you an opportunity to shift appointments if necessary to reduce time pressures and, most importantly, figure out when you have some time to relax! 5. Take a Day Off Image The absolute best way to juggle a full-time job with a business school is to give yourself a day off every now and then. While this may sound counterproductive, and you may feel like you have too much to get done, taking a day for yourself is essential for keeping your head in the game. No one can run at top speed indefinitely We all need to take a step back and recharge our batteries every so often. So do it. And dont feel bad about it. A day off reduces the risk of you becoming overwhelmed by your workload and allows you to clear your head, returning rejuvenated and ready to handle whatevers thrown at you. Take the Chance It doesnt matter whether youre a recent graduate or youve been building your career for a few years its never too late to further your education and give yourself an opportunity to expand your learning. And while it can be nerve-wracking to go back into education after youve secured a job (especially if youre planning on working and studying at the same time!), it can be well worth it. Will you be busy? Sure. But with these 5 simple yet handy tips, youll be better equipped to juggle everything with ease. What's next? Ready to take action?
